One of the great joys of my work is engaging in rich, insightful conversations with brilliant minds dedicated to meaningful change. Launching our new podcast, Toward Solutions, alongside my wonderful co-host, Dion Sing, was precisely one of those joyful experiences.

In our inaugural episode, we were privileged to speak with Anton Stellamans, a remarkable figure in the world of Solution Focused practice whose depth of knowledge and humility deeply resonated with me. Anton shared powerful insights on solution-focused practice as the "Pragmatics of Hope and Respect"—a concept that beautifully encapsulates why Solution Focused approaches can be so transformative.

Anton challenged us to embrace "not knowing," something that may initially seem counterintuitive, especially in professional settings where expertise is traditionally celebrated. However, in our conversation, it became clear that embracing uncertainty with genuine curiosity creates an ethical and respectful space, inviting others into meaningful dialogue. This stance helps uncover possibilities and creativity that would remain hidden if we only positioned ourselves as experts who know more than….

Another memorable moment was Anton’s analogy comparing Solution Focused practice to jazz music. Just as jazz musicians attentively listen and adapt in real-time, solution-focused practitioners engage in a similar dance—listening deeply and responding fluidly, shaping the conversation as it unfolds. This image beautifully captures the essence of collaborative dialogue and respectful engagement.

I am particularly grateful to Anton for his openness and generosity. He shared decades of hard-earned wisdom, bringing stories from his extensive international experience that vividly illustrated the power of Solution Focused work in diverse and complex contexts. His stories reminded me of why I am passionate about this practice and how deeply rewarding it can be when we genuinely connect with others.

A heartfelt thank you goes to my co-host Dion Sing, whose thoughtful questions and insights brought out the best in our conversation. Co-creating this podcast with Dion has been a fantastic experience, and I look forward to many more episodes filled with curiosity, learning, and meaningful dialogue.

I invite you all to listen to this episode, reflect on the "Pragmatics of Hope and Respect," and consider how adopting such an approach might transform your own practice, leadership, and relationships.

Join us on this exciting journey—where we choose curiosity over certainty, respect over assumption, and hope as a guiding force for positive change.
